Advance Child Tax Credit payments are early payments from the IRS of 50 percent of the estimated amount of the Child Tax Credit that you may properly claim on your 2021 tax return during the 2022 tax filing season.
If the IRS has processed your 2020 tax return or 2019 tax return, these monthly payments will be made starting in July and through December 2021, based on the information contained in that return.
To qualify for advance Child Tax Credit payments, you — and your spouse, if you filed a joint return — must have:
The IRS will use information you provided earlier to determine if you qualify and automatically enroll you for advance payments. You do not need to take any additional action to get advance payments.

If you qualify for Advance Child Care Tax Payments, there is nothing you need to do and you have been automatically enrolled for advance payments.
The IRS will pay half the total credit amount in advance monthly payments beginning July 15. You will claim the other half when you file your 2021 income tax return. These changes apply to tax year 2021 only.
Payments will be sent by the IRS via direct deposit, paper check, or debit card around the 15th of each month July 2021 - December 2021.
The IRS offers a tool to check if you are enrolled to receive payments, unenroll to stop getting advance payments, or provide/update your bank account information for future monthly payments.

Please note: If you utilized a third party to prepare your taxes and received an advance of your refund from the third party, you may experience a delay in receiving the child tax credit payments. In this case, the IRS may send the payment to the preparer to then send to the taxpayer. Make sure you’ve updated your bank account information to receive funds as quickly as possible.
