Members of the Scholarship Committee from Thomaston Savings Bank awarded Nelson O. Rebecchi of Torrington a scholarship to attend the Advanced Manufacturing Certificate Program at Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) for one year. The scholarship was presented at an awards recognition luncheon at the college. Nelson was chosen from a pool of applicants based on an essay describing why he wanted to attend the manufacturing program, and how it would change his life. Nelson’s lifelong passion of working with his hands influenced him to pursue obtaining his manufacturing certificate with the ultimate goal of owning his own manufacturing business.
“Nelson is a hardworking individual with a great personality and the drive to succeed in the Advanced Manufacturing Certificate Program,” stated Luiz Santos, B&I Instructor at NVCC.
Thomaston Savings Bank is proud to support the Advanced Manufacturing Program at NVCC. Manufacturers are one of the most sought-after workers in Connecticut. Recently, there were 22,000 job openings for manufacturers in Connecticut, making it the fourth largest hiring sector in the state. For workers with experience in manufacturing, this program presents an opportunity to modernize skill sets, enabling its graduates to be more attractive to employers in today’s job market.
“We hear from the manufacturers in our community that there is a need for trained employees, and the Advanced Manufacturing Program at NVCC really ties back to our commitment to our customers and our community. We felt this scholarship would be a good way to give back,” said Stephen Lewis, President of Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation, Inc.
