Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation Rewards Grants for Hartford County

07/26/2021

The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation has awarded 35 grant requests in the amount of $80,475.99 in Phase I of its annual grant cycle. Phase I included the following towns in Hartford County: Bristol, Burlington, Farmington and Plainville. To celebrate, the Foundation hosted a grant reception for recipients to attend along with Thomaston Savings Bank Board of Directors, Corporators and employees. Attendees were able to come together to share and celebrate their hard work and involvement in the local community. The reception was held at the Environmental Learning Center of CT’s new patio venue at Indian Rock Nature Preserve in Bristol, on July 13th.

“Thomaston Savings Bank has been an incredible partner with the Kids of Summer Foundation. Our organization’s goal is to provide accommodating child care and encourage kids to get outside, get off their electronics and have fun. We are extremely grateful for the steadfast support from the Bank and the Foundation. We are also grateful for employees who have participated in our events, especially our Penguin Plunge.” - Jon Sheaffer, The Kids of Summer Foundation

The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation was created in 1997 to distribute funds annually to a variety of local programs. Each year, the Foundation hosts a grant cycle to provide funding to organizations that are assisting the community in their respective counties. The funds are used to benefit local organizations to ensure that charitable needs are met throughout the towns which the Bank serves.

“The foundation is proud to have granted $7.5 million in funding since its inception. We are very fortunate to be at the point where we are giving out around $700,000 per year and we hope to grow that number as our foundation continues to grow. We are very happy to support our community and celebrate the organizations of Hartford County at our grant reception.” - Stephen L. Lewis, President & CEO, Thomaston Savings Bank

To best serve the community the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation hosts its grant cycle in three phases: Hartford County, Litchfield County, and New Haven County. All three phases of the 2021 Grant Cycle considers applications from local nonprofit and government agencies in support of the following focus areas: arts & culture, community development, education and youth services, health and human services, and public safety. Applications from religious organizations will be considered for grant purposes which support programming that assists in meeting the needs of the community and/or falls under the scope of the above priority areas.
