Quilts That Care members hold a big check awarded by Thomaston Savings Bank.

Thomaston Savings Bank recently awarded a grant to Quilts that Care to assist in funding necessary supplies and equipment. Quilts that Care is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, whose mission is to wrap cancer patients and their families in comfort and hope, one quilt at a time.

“We are proud to support such a wonderful organization in their mission of providing comfort and hope to cancer patients.” – Stephen Lewis, President & CEO, Thomaston Savings Bank

Quilts that Care was founded in 2012 by Deborah Van Steenbergen and a handful of friends. Together they have provided more than 5,700 hand-made quilts to cancer patients across the state. The organization has a dedicated group of more than 65 volunteers who craft the quilts and then are distributed through partnerships with 17 facilities devoted to cancer care. “Quilts that Care is grateful to receive the support of Thomaston Savings Bank,” said Edna Z. Wells, Quilts that Care Communications/Development Officer. “This grant helps us to purchase the quilt batting we need to further our mission to wrap cancer patients in warmth, to let them know they are not alone and that someone is thinking about them.”
