Thomaston Savings Bank hosted local New Britain student through the Future Bankers and Financial Professionals Camp. This camp is a four week college level program comprised of classroom instruction and real world experience provided through job shadowing, site visits, industry presentations, hands on activities, and more.

The Bank hosted Ariana, a New Britain High School student, at their Farmington Branch for her job shadowing portion of the program. During these two weeks, she had the opportunity to learn the daily accountabilities of a bank teller through customer interactions and hands on experience.

“Ariana’s enthusiasm, curiosity and dedication to learning about the financial and banking industries was evident throughout her time with us. We believe this experience has brought the potential career in banking to light and look forward to witness the positive impact Ariana will bring to the industry.” – Stephen Lewis, President & CEO, Thomaston Savings Bank

“My experience with the Bank was great! I learned a lot more than I thought I would. I have seen firsthand the day-to-day responsibilities of a teller. I also learned how to do deposits, withdrawals, as well as witness a customer open a personal or business bank account. My favorite part has been interacting with customers. I thought it was great that the tellers at my branch knew customers names creating that familiar, family attitude. I have always considered finance as a possible career, however, now I could see myself being a bank teller part-time in the future as I pursue college.” – Ariana Mohamed, Participant, Future Bankers & Financial Professionals Camp

The Future Bankers and Financial Professionals Camp is designed to motivate and tap into the talent of high-achieving minority students from low-income areas, providing them a clear and promising career path in the financial services industry. This is a collaborative program hosted by the Center for Financial Training (CFT), local community colleges, universities, school districts and financial service institutions. This initiative is geared towards rising high school juniors and seniors from high-risk neighborhoods.
